Poem: Where Even Aphrodite Envy Smiles

By Merife Obinna - 25 February

Best, your smile breaks morning out of night,

A quiet sun that rises in my chest.
Mountains bow before your gentle light,
Granite hearts surrender, stilled and blessed.
When laughter spills, the stubborn hills give way,
And iron doubts dissolve like winter snow.
You tilt the world to brighter shades of day,
With curves of joy only your lips can show.

Even Aphrodite turns restless at the sight,
Her mirrors dim beside your living glow.
For beauty’s throne shifts softly in your light,
As jealous tides around her ankles flow.
If love were sculpted fresh from heaven’s art,
It would borrow your smile to crown its heart.
